---- Coaching -----

Youth Soccer Development Debate - The case for more practices, fewer games: Topics relating to player development have drawn substantial interest and discussion on the Soccer Wires recently, with a particular interest in Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) and the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. So I thought I would have a try at breaking down individual topics from the perspective, as we’ve heard it, of the country’s top coaches and the growing commentary on how the U.S. youth development system needs to be “fixed". Then invite the our community of coaches and others to weight in, hopefully for the benefit and experience of all.

Straus: MLS 2011 uniforms look disappointingly bland: MLS has unveiled its 2011 jerseys, and Fanhouse's Brian Straus is underwhelmed. The longtime U.S. soccer journalist scored an interview with adidas Director of Soccer Antonio Zea to discuss the company's newest MLS designs with the varying looks of the past, then lamented what he believes is an opportunity lost for many of the league's clubs.

The Houston Dynamo, FC Dallas and Toronto FC  will join USL PRO side Orlando City for the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic tournament. All three MLS clubs return from last year’s edition in which Toronto finished second and Houston beat Dallas for third place. The New York Red Bulls won the inaugural tournament, defeating Toronto 4-0 in the final. Orlando City is a new D-III team, having moved from Austin, Texas (formerly the Austin Aztex) in the offseason.
