The U.S. will take on two-time FIFA World Cup Champion Argentina on March 26 in East Rutherford, N.J. Kickoff at the New Meadowlands Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and Univision. Three days later, the U.S. hosts Paraguay at LP Field in Nashville. TeleFutura and ESPN3.com will broadcast the U.S. Men’s National Team’s first match of 2011 when they face Chile on Saturday, Jan. 22, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The kickoff time has been moved to 7 p.m. PT.

U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Pia Sundhage has named 23 players to the roster for the 2011 Four Nations Tournament taking place in Chongqing, China, where the USA will face Sweden, Canada and the host.

U.S. midfielder Yael Averbuch checks in from Chongqing, China, as the USA prepares to face Sweden in its opening match of the Four Nations Tournament.

U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Maurice Edu sealed a 4-0 win for his club side Rangers over the weekend when he struck a left-footed shot from the top of the area for his second league goal of the season.

U.S. defender Jonathan Bornstein made his debut for the Mexican club UNAL Tigres on Saturday as the beat Necaxa 1-0.

The U.S. U-14 Boys’ National Team is in the middle of its lone international training of 2011, an annual trip to Guadalajara, Mexico, from Jan. 16-23 that includes eight days of training and a series of friendly matches against local youth clubs.

The New York Cosmos have hired former Manchester United and France forward Eric Cantona as director of soccer as part of the team’s revival.

Forward Kenny Cooper has signed with Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers.

Women’s Professional Soccer and Sahlen Packing Company, Inc. of Buffalo, NY, announced a partnership that makes Sahlen’s the “Official Hot Dog of Women’s Professional Soccer.” This is the league’s sixth national sponsor.

The Western New York Flash of Women’s Professional Soccer signed midfielder Becky Edwards for the 2011 season. Edwards, 22, will come to the Flash after playing her rookie season with the WPS Champions, FC Gold Pride.

FC Tampa Bay’s four-month search for a head coach ended Tuesday with the announcement former Rowdies player and coach Ricky Hill would take over.

J.R. Eskilson takes a look at eleven college programs to watch in 2011.

U.S. Youth Soccer announced their regional award winners for the 2010 Young Referees of the Year, Administrators of the Year, Volunteers of the Year, and Recreation Coaches of the Year.

The U.S. Soccer Foundation has awarded 63 grants totaling $2.5 million to non-profit organizations serving youth in 30 states.

The 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention was held this past weekend in Baltimore, Md. The Soccer Wires staff was out in full force this year, with six staff members on the ground covering all the latest news and activities.

The NSCAA handed out a number of awards this past weekend at their annual convention.

Researchers are finding that ALS, a progressive and fatal neuromuscular disease, is more commonly found in athletes, and they are beginning to unravel the causes.

Even in the year preceding the tournament, the effect of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 was already being felt, with a record 512 women’s matches played, more than half of which were qualifiers for the World Cup this June and July. There was, however, a slight decrease in the men’s game, with only 808 matches played in the year of the FIFA
World Cup.

A fugitive suspect wanted in last year’s near-fatal bar shooting of Salvador Cabanas, a former star for Paraguay’s national football team and Mexico’s Club America, was arrested in the Mexican capital Tuesday.

France coach Laurent Blanc on Monday expressed his dismay that the new multi-million euro France kit unveiled on Monday makes Les Bleus look too much like their Italian rivals.

The 37-year-old Corinthians left back and Brazil legend scored a spectacular goal directly off a corner kick in their match against Portuguesa on Sunday. Carlos quickly fired a low shot to the far post and caught the goalkeeper off guard.

Villarreal’s Cani scores a fantastic goal from the halfway line: When he’s not throwing water bottles at Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, Villarreal’s Cani shows his awareness and ability by scoring from the halfway line against Osasuna. Only a few minutes after Osasuna equalized to make it 1-1 just after halftime, Cani launched this perfectly placed ball over the head of backtracking goalkeeper Ricardo to put Villarreal back on top on its way to a 4-2 win on Saturday.
