The Phildelphia Union has signed 15-year-old Zach Pfeffer, making him the club’s first-ever Home Grown signing and the fourth-youngest in MLS history. Pfeffer, a member of the US U-17 national team who hails from Dresher, Pa., has played for national youth club power FC Delco and represented the Union in the annual SUM Cup for U-17 players during All-Star week in Houston.

> LA Galaxy’s Landon Donovan will not go on loan to Europe this offseason
Landon Donovan is staying put this offseason, forgoing the chance to be loaned to a European club for the third straight winter. Donovan scored two goals in 13 matches during a loan to Everton from last January to March, helping the Toffees beat Chelsea and Manchester United, and draw against Arsenal. Everton manager David Moyes appeared open to having the 28-year-old return.

The group will prepare for the USA’s first match of 2011, a friendly against fellow FIFA World Cup finalists Chile on Jan. 22.

Bolton’s Stuart Holden is ranked as the No. 1 player in the English Premier League by fans in the Guardian’s EPL Team of the Season so far.

The 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup will be staged in 13 venues across 11 U.S. cities, opening at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday, June 5 and concluding with the championship match Saturday, June 25 at the historic Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

U.S. Soccer announced the final four winners of the 2010 Best of U.S. Soccer Awards – the winners of Best Assist, Best Soccer Bar, Best Soccer Blog and Best Studio 90 Feature.

The U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team picked up a 2-0 win against Canada in the first of a pair of friendlies in Boca Raton, Fla., and then trounced Canada 5-0 days later in their final friendly of 2010.

The U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team rounded out its trip to Tel Aviv with a 1-2 loss to Germany.

The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team has been drawn into Group B of the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, which will serve as qualifying for the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup, along with Cuba and Panama.

Major League Soccer revealed the schedule for all home openers and “First Kick 2011” — the entire opening week of the 2011 season set to take place in mid-March.

The Seattle Sounders FC has signed goalkeeper Kasey Keller to a contract extension for the 2011 Major League Soccer season. Keller, 41, will retire after his 20th professional season and his third in Seattle.

MLS is in the midst of negotiating a new TV deal with Fox Soccer Channel, and according to Sports Business Journal, isn’t being shy about the process. The current FSC contract is worth about $3 million a year. MLS is asking for $20 million.

The 2011 WPS Draft has been scheduled for 1pm on Friday, January 14th during the 2011 NSCAA Convention in Baltimore, Maryland and will be broadcast in real time via a live league webcast from Baltimore, Maryland.

The Philadelphia Independence signed pure striker and goalscorer Tasha Kai, who led Sky Blue FC in scoring in both 2009 and 2010.

Sky Blue FC has signed two-time Swedish Player of the Year Therese Sjögran, who will join the team on loan from Damallsvenskan club LdB FC Malmö.

The Western New York Flash expansion team acquired Caroline Seger from Philadelphia in exchange for WNY’s first pick in the second round in the 2011 WPS Draft and first pick in the second round in the 2012 WPS Draft. In addition, the Flash also agreed to terms with US National Team midfielder Yael Averbuch. The Flash has also signed midfielder McCall Zerboni, goalkeeper Brittany Cameron, and defender Candace Chapman and defender Whitney Engen.

About 300 VfB Stuttgart fans attempted to storm the VIP box (where the club’s directors were watching) after their team lost 5-3 to Bayern Munich in the final Bundesliga match of 2010.

Cavani’s spectacular goal for Napoli to beat Lecce: Napoli’s Edison Cavani struck a spectacular goal from distance to score the game’s only goal, a game-winner in the 93rd minute of the Italian Serie A match. Aside from the gorgeous long-range strike, Cavani beats two defenders on the dribble and then creates enough space for him to shoot. The commentary isn’t to be missed either.
