ECNL all-star squad taking England by storm

12 Aug, 2011

Overcoming major disruptions to their schedule caused by the sudden eruption of rioting and disorder on the streets of England this week, the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) select team currently touring the island nation has enjoyed a successful trip so far, cruising to victory in its first two matches and representing both its league and home country with pride.

Coached by Jay Howell (Birmingham FC) and Chris King (Ohio Premier), the all-star squad of 1994- and ’95-born players defeated Bristol Academy 6-1 on Wednesday before dispatching Chelsea FC with a 5-2 comeback victory on Thursday.

The ECNL team was disappointed to miss out on Wednesday night’s international friendly between England and Holland at Wembley Stadium, a match which was cancelled due to the widespread social unrest in the city. But the girls have adapted to the evolving situation and are still set to play Aston Villa this weekend.

Officially known as the 2011 ECNL/id2 International Tour, the trip features three friendly matches with training sessions on off days for a 17-player squad including many of the top female prospects in U.S. soccer.
